I like to dedicate my first blog to an issue I have had in the past. I know every girl has gone through this once, twice or maybe several times in their life- buying an outfit spontaneously, knowing that you will probably only wear it once.
I am totally guilty. I still have that floral Forever 21 blouse hanging in my closet. I thought it would be perfect for an Easter luncheon- It was, but I have not worn it since. Which reminds me, that was almost a year ago and I need to drop it off at Goodwill along with my fashion pride.
Ladies, let's just stick to the basics. What do you mean by that you say? Well, it is easy to remember-- buy something you know you will wear more than once. When shopping for an outfit, I ask myself…Does this color look good on me? Would I wear this more than once? (I have to be completely honest with myself) Do I already have jewelry or shoes that would look fab with this? If I answer yes to all these questions then I buy it. Simple as that.
Another basic I like to stick to when shopping is buying neutrals. One, neutrals look good on everyone. Two, you can rock any jewelry piece with neutrals. And three, all those accessories you have laying around will go great with a neutral top or dress. I know, I know…but neutrals are so boring. Well, I found myself buying less because I have some solid pieces in my closet that I wear with anything and everything. Trust me on this…if you stick to the basics you will always have something to wear to any occasion.
Neutrals are amazing to have; however, always check the price before buying. Let's be honest, no one wants to drop two hundred bones on a ivory top-- it better have been made by the good Lord Himself if I am going to pay that much. Can I get an amen? My favorite places to purchase neutrals for a reasonable price are Tj Maxx, Marshalls, Old Navy and Nordstrom Rack. You can always find a steal at either of these stores! And, if you do not have a Nordstrom Rack close to you then you are in luck because they have a website.
Here's your "stick to the basics" checklist: the perfect basic cotton top, a black or cream sweater, well-fitted jeans (show off that donk), along with a collection of neutral shoes. It is so easy to throw on a neutral top because you can totally dress it up or down. For example, during the day, I will wear a top with a cute scarf and ballet flats. At night, I wear the same top but with a printed skirt and some pumps. BOOM!
So ladies, stick to the basics the next time you want to purchase an outfit. I promise you will wear that item more than once. Happy shopping!
