Some of you may or may not know, but my natural hair color is a dark ash brown. People always ask me "why do you dye your hair blonde" and honestly I don't know.
Until….
I started pondering the thought of me wanting highlights- I remembered asking my mother if I could go through with it, but could not remember why. At the time, I was in the fourth grade and did not know any better so of course she said no. After I setup my hair appointment, I called my mother and asked "where in the world did I get the idea of dying my hair?!" Her answer: Britney Spears. (Yep, that just happened. Thank goodness I was by myself so no one could see how red I was.) I immediately hung up the phone and decided to go to Sonic and drink all my worries away. It was happy hour anyway.
While I was drinking my Route 44 Diet Dr. Pepper, I thought about what my mother had said and it made sense. If you are around the age of twenty-three and up then you know that Britney was the "it girl" in the late 90's/early 00's (After 2007, it went downhill from there. Poor, Brit. Still got mad love for her though). Yes, I wanted to look like her- I believe that every other girl that was my age wanted to, too. I had the brown eyes-- I just needed the blonde hair to look like this teenage pop star. By 2004, I finally convinced my mom to let me get highlights and my bank account has hated me ever since.
Now let's talk about where I go to get my hair done (insert sassy hair flip emoji).
Salon 387
Salon 387 is brand spanking new to Memphis. It opened on Tuesday, February 3rd of this year by Erika Smith and Elaine Clayton. It is an eclectic salon located in the South Main district, which is in downtown Memphis.
So get this…the downstairs is a boutique called "Stock and Belle" and the upstairs is Salon 387. How cool is that?! You can shop while waiting on your hair appointment. Yea, I haven't told my husband about that yet, but I am sure he will figure it out the next time I go, hehe. I bet a million bucks that not one single gal is late for her appointment. If anything, women will be arriving early so they can shop before and possibly after their hair makeover. I would say that was a brilliant move by both companies. Stock and Belle have their grand opening night on February 27th.
What I really dig about this salon is that it gives off a urban, glam feel. This place is decorated with pieces of art by a local artist, Maggie Russell (If you are interested in Maggie's art then check out her Instagram page, @mrussellart.) Every item in the salon has a modern twist to it, which I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE.

Salon 387 has a clear, stunning view of downtown Memphis. Oh, and they glamorize happy hour- literally. Yes, you get to drink champagne while getting your hair done. The men also get their own special drink; Wiseacre beer- a local brewery. They provide Ananda, Tarasque and Tiny Bomb (all of my husband's favorites).
Who does my hair, you wonder? Well her name is Alli and she totally rocks! All I have to do is show her a picture of what I want and she works her magic every time! You know you have a trusting stylist when she is a combination of an artist, psychologist, and a magician. Alli can change my hair, my mood, and my self-image with a snip of her scissors and a wave of her curing iron- add a little hairspray into the mix and I am golden. I always feel like a new and improved woman when I leave. And, thank the good Lord above that she makes me look like a natural blonde- no one would ever know I am actually brunette. My last visit I got partial highlights, a cut, and my hair styled (I needed it badddddd). The total amount was $140 dollars, which was a reasonable price. Trust me, I can drop some money on my hair so I was happy to know that it was under $150 dollars.
My hair always look and feels like silk once she is done- she uses Oribe products. My absolute favorite is Oribe Soft Lacquer. It adds back softness and shine to your hair. Also, it is a heat protectant, anti-humdity, anti-frizz and it helps hold your style in place. You cannot go wrong with a product like that. Another great product is Split End Seal, also made by Oribe. FDA approved that it can heal split ends!!! So no more sitting in your car picking at your dead ends. Oribe has an abundant amount of great hair goo!
