This was my first Valentine's Day as a married woman and I wanted to set the bar high…or at least I thought I was going to...
Kam, my husband, and I had the whole day planned out to a tee. We were going to go sightseeing around Memphis. You know, do the touristy stuff- take pictures in front of murals, get brunch in Midtown, stop by Wiseacre Brewery and grab him a beer (I am not a big beer drinker. Give me a cranberry vodka and I am good to go.) We would visit all of our favorite places- Take a stroll down by the river, eat Gibson donuts, and stop by Madison Growler Shop, etc. (Yes, we live in Memphis and still like going to tourist attractions.) Once we get home, we would make dinner together and watch one of our favorite movies with our precious little puppy, King. I loved the idea and was totally on board. I even had a super cute outfit picked out for our V-Day adventure- a burgundy tunic top I got from a local boutique (The CW Boutique called "I'm Sold"), my holey AG boyfriend jeans, nude flats and Kendra Scott jewelry.

However, I was running a fever, my nose was stuffed-up and my head felt like it was about to explode at any point. I thought…"You've got to be kidding me?! Out of all the times this could happen to me it would be today." But I acted cool, got dressed (didn't wear my cute planned outfit, sad face), and was ready to make new memories as a married couple.
First thing we did was stop by Memphis Brewing Company. The brewery was not opened yet so we had some time to kill. There was a mural of "I love Memphis" beside the building and I have always wanted to take a picture in front of it. Here was my chance!!! So of course I got my husband to take several pictures of me by it. ("Photo Shoot" by Gucci Mane was playing in the background during this mural photo sesh.) Then, we decided to just go ahead and eat because we were both starving and did not want to wait any longer. We stopped by a restaurant called "Sweet Grass", which is located in Midtown. As we ate lunch, I started to feel worse. I tried to hide it, but Kam knew better. I mean I hardly touched my food because I could not smell or taste anything- You know a southern girl is sick when she is not chowing down on her fried chicken. He finally said "let's end our adventure here and take you home to get medicine." (Thank goodness because homegirl was about to pass out.)
While driving home, I looked at the pictures we took on my phone. In one picture Kam is standing under the "I Heart" part of the mural- It looks like I did it on purpose, but I didn't. As I gazed at this picture, I realized that I am one blessed woman. Did I really get the chance to marry my absolute best friend?! How lucky am I?! I mean look at that stud muffin- he loves me so much that he is willing to drop all of our planned surprises to take care of me at home. Then I thought married life is not about those arranged memories; It is about creating spontaneous, unplanned memories with each other even if the other one is totally sick. We will look back on our first V-Day together and just laugh.
I spent my Valentine's Day on the couch watching some All-Star game with my husband, figuring out where I placed my last tissue, and trying to remain sexy in my bunny pjs, while laying in his arms, avoiding the repetitive coughs and sneezes I had.
Kam, aka man of mystery, spent his Valentine's Day getting me strawberry ice cream, making me soup, and still having the ability to make me feel like the most special person ever.
And guess what…I wouldn't trade this for the world.
The point of this story is to tell your special someone that he or she means the world to you. In my advice is to squeeze the guy or girl next to you, say how much you appreciate him or her, and create memories because life is too short to sweat the small stuff. For all my single ladies, keep your head high because you are flawless, even Beyoncé will tell you so. God has a beautiful plan for everyone so just trust in Him.
And just remember, this day is to recognize all the people you love most not just your significant other. So call your mother, dad, sister, brother, or grandparents, best friends, coworkers, WHOEVER IT IS and tell them that you love them. I know I will. I am calling my Mommy D as we speak. Well, while you are reading. You know what I mean.
I got mad love for all my readers! Happy Valentine's Day!!!
Xo,
The Blonde Stylist
